And He said to them, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart, and with all soul, and with all your mind.'  "This is the great and foremost commandment.  "The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."

Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fullfilled." Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, ....
 Luke 24:44-45 NASB

2 Corinthians 5:1-3
1 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens
2 For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven
3 inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked.

This is a favorite verse of mine when talking to my Sunday School class because 5th & 6th grade boys just grin from ear to ear when you say the word 'naked'.  They are so funny.  I just love watching their reactions to stuff like that.  At that moment, I know that they are listening and now I can try to help them understand eternal life.  We all need help trying to grasp this concept.  Eternal life is beyond our normal scope of understanding.  We struggle just to make it to work or to school on time.  Look at it this way; suicide is a lie!

God is eternal.  He does not have a start date and He does not have an end date.  Man has a start date, but we do not have an end date because we are made in the image of the Living God.  Your sweet puppy dog will die and his existence will end (sorry to break the news to all my dog lover friends, but just remember that God loves all His creation including your sweet puppy dog (maybe even cats, but I'm really not sure about them - that is a just a joke - FYI God has a very good sense of humor)).  Your sweet puppy dog is not made in the image of the Living God.  You are.  You will live for eternity in the spirit.  Get a hold of that concept because it is 100% true.

What about death eternal?  When a person can not cope with life and they make a choice to end their life thinking that they will stop existing, they do not!  When Man (male and female) dies, their spirit lives on.  The bible describes a physical resurrection of the body, but for this discussion please allow us to stay focused just on the spirit of man for now.

Suicide is a lie!  Man is eternal because God is eternal.  The question is 'where will you spend eternity?'.  Looking at death from this perspective should give every Christian a new outlook on talking to people about Jesus.  Christians have been called to the ministry of reconciliation.  See below.

2 Corinthians 5:18-21
18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation
19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him

Reconciliation means to restore a relationship.  God used the Christ to restore the relationship of God to Man.  Jesus is the Christ.

Think about this; Jesus spoke more about hell than any other person in our bible.  Jesus understood where Man goes if he is not reconciled with God.  Jesus wants to save everyone, but you must come to God in the way He prescribes.  Check this out; I am a nobody, telling everybody about Somebody who can save anybody.  I bring nothing to the table of salvation.  I am naked.  I ask Jesus, God the Son, to cloth me in His righteousness so that I can go before God the Father, not on my own righteousness, but on the righteousness provided by the Lamb of God and secured by God the Holy Spirit.  Jesus is the Lamb of God.

ILLUSTRATION:  I saw this illustration years ago and it really helped me grasp this concept.  Take a ball of colorful twine and have two people hold out the twine halfway across the room.  Then describe your life; date of birth is the starting point followed by major events like salvation, near death experiences, school graduations, commitments like military service, marriage, baptism, etc.  In a few years, I will celebrate fifty years of age (Lord willing).  A few months ago, I had a great aunt celebrate her 100th birthday.  What if I live one hundred years?

At this point, I ask the people holding the two ends of the twine to double the length of twine to show my possible 100 year physical life span.

After that has been established, we need to show my eternal existence.  I ask the guy holding the date of birth to say were he is standing and ask the other man to take the twine and start walking.  My instruction to him as he leaves the room is 'only stop when my eternal spiritual existence is over or just circle the earth a couple times for this example'.  Since I do not have eternal twine, he will run out.  I hope that by watching this man walk out of the room pulling the twine and hearing my instruction to circle the earth a couple times should be enough of an illustration to help everyone understand a little better our eternal existence.

This should give us all a fire to spread the good news.
