And He said to them, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart, and with all soul, and with all your mind.'  "This is the great and foremost commandment.  "The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."

Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fullfilled." Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, ....
 Luke 24:44-45 NASB

These are my notes from an opportunity I had to address a small group of
young men inside the Gainesville Youth Prison back in 2005.

Gentlemen,
(Open in Prayer)

See this?  (Show a monopoly get-out-of-jail-free card enlarged)
What if I told you where to get a get-out-of-jail-free card?
What if I said I hid it inside a book?
Would you search that book?  You would and so would I.
If you really, really believed that it could set you free.
You would search for that get-out-of-jail-free card as if your life depended upon it.

The same is true for the Word of God.
All men are born inside a jail.  Not a physical jail like these, but a spiritual prison.
Did you know that?  All men, you included, start off as prisoners.
That jail cell is the physical sin of man.  That was not what God wanted, but …
Because God loves us, His Spirit became Flesh so that our flesh could become spirit.
Physically, all men are born as prisoners inside this flesh.
You must want out to get out.
Spiritually, God gave all men the opportunity to get a get-out-of-jail-free card.
As men, we must read our Bible as if our lives depended upon it…because they do.

But, just getting out of this jail is not the real issue, is it?  Staying out…that’s the ticket.
The bible teaches us how to master this flesh (prison) which should keep you out of jail.

A get-out-of-jail-free card sounds good, but we need the freedom that does not end.
Physically, our actions lead us to jail.
Spiritually, our lack of action keeps us in jail.
Did you get that … our lack of spiritual action keeps us in our flesh prison.

Did you know that God does not send anyone to hell.
Did you hear me?
People who reject God send themselves to hell because they did not choose to follow God.
Turn your bibles to John 12:44-50.

John 12:44-50
44 And Jesus cried out and said,
"He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.
45 He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.
46 I have come as Light into the world,
so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.
47 If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them,
I do not judge him;
for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him
the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.
49 For I did not speak on My own initiative,
but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.
50 I know that His commandment is eternal life;
therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me."

Our actions in this life create stepping stones for our future.
This is true for everyone.
God gave us life to live.
What we do with the time we have on this earth depends upon our actions or our stepping stones.
Our physical life is pointless without a spiritual life.
And that is what we will discuss today.
Plus, we will see why God requires the shedding of blood for our sin, the Messiah, the Nation of Israel and this Bible.

First, who am I?  I am a very small grain of sand on a big, long beach.
Just like you.
The Creator of our beach knows my name.
The questions is 'does He know yours'?  Yes, He does.

I was born with a kidney disease and faced death because of my condition.
Not as dramatic as facing death in a gun fight, but a battle in a hospital bed.
I did nothing to deserve this death sentence, but it was given to me.
Guess what?  I realized that we all will die.
That disease was one of the greatest gifts I have ever received from God.
What?
That disease helped me understand that all men are born with a disease of sin.
You did nothing to deserve being born a sinner and neither did I, but we are.
We are separated from God at conception even before our first breath.
It’s not God's fault.
It was our great, great, great, great grandfather, Adam.
His disobedience brought death into God's perfect world.
God provided a solution to death and sin.
Because God loves man, His Spirit became Flesh so that our flesh could become spirit.

When it comes to religion, there are only two things in this world, I want to listen to;
The Word of God and what the Word of God has done in a persons' life.
That is what these clothes represent.
(I have hangers with my Army uniform, a graduation cap/gown, suit and baseball uniform.)
These are my stepping stones after forty years.
What will your stepping stones look like when you are forty?
I spent over seven years in the Amy Reserves which help pay for the cap and gown.
While in school, I met my wife and we've been married now for more than fifteen years.
We have a couple boys and God gave me another blessing in allowing me to coach my boys.

You can join the military, go to school, get married and have kids without a relationship with God.
Personally, if it was not for God, I would be divorced today because I was not walking with God.
I would have lost out on coaching my boys.
If I had been caught doing some of the things I did in high school and college,
I would need to add an orange jump suit to my wardrobe.
My life would have been completely different and I would have missed out on all God has blessed me with today.
God makes life sweet.

Let me share a little bible with you.
Turn to Exodus 15:22-17 and lets read about the nation of Israel after they crossed the Red Sea.

Exodus 15:22-27
22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur;
and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.
23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah,
for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah.
24 So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"
25 Then he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree
and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet
There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them
26 And He said, "If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God,
and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments,
and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians;
for I, the Lord, am your healer."
27 Then they came to Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms,
and they camped there beside the waters.

God allowed them to go three days without water.
They found themselves at a body of bitter water.
God threw in a tree and the water became sweet.
Our life without Jesus Christ is a bitter existence.
God provides the tree that makes our bitter water sweet.
Are you thirsty?
Jesus said He was living water.
Turn to John 4:7-15 and lets read what Jesus said to a Samaritan woman.

John 4:7-15
7 There came a woman of Samaria to draw water.
Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink."
8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him,
"How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?"
(For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
10 Jesus answered and said to her,
"If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,'
you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
11 She said to Him,
"Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep;
where then do You get that living water
12 You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You,
who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?"
13 Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst
but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."
15 The woman said to Him,
"Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw."

That's where we will focus our time today, but we need to establish something…
The Word can be read intellectually, but it is spiritually discerned.
You can read the words on the pages,
but it is God who opens up your eyes to see,
opens your ears to hear,
opens your mind to understand and
opens your heart to grasp the meaning.
Turn to Luke 24:44-45.

Luke 24:44-45
44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fullfilled."
45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, ....

We as mortal men, must pray to God our Creator and ask Him to reveal His Word to us.
His Word is spiritually discerned.
Remember what I said before; Spirit became Flesh.
Jesus is described as the Word in the gospel of John.
Because of the fall of man, God gave us His only begotten Son.
(Pray for God to open our eyes, ears, hearts and minds)

As you read your bible from Genesis to Revelation, ask God to show you four key points.
First point, why does God require the shedding of blood for sin?
After that we are ready to discuss the coming of the Messiah.
The Messiah (or Christ) is God's ultimate blood sacrifice for the sin of all mankind.
Messiah and Christ are the same word in different languages.
Messiah is Hebrew and Christ is Greek.
Third, we will take a look at the nation of Israel and see who they are and why God used them.
Forth, man needs the covering of God or man will stand naked before God on judgement day.
The covering of God is God's righteousness which He provides.
Jesus is our righteousness and our covering if you accept Him as the Christ.
Jesus is the Lamb of God given for the sins of Man.
