Now He said to them, "These
are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all
things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and
the
Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." Then He
opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, ....
Names of God What is in a name? What about the name of God? What about the names of God? What name is above all other names? By the name
Jesus, I have been adopted as a child to the Living God. No other
name can do that. Jesus is the Christ.
Numbers 27:15-17
Moses described God as the Father of the Spirits of all flesh. Moses did not say Father of just the Israelites, but Father of the Spirits of all flesh which includes the Jew and the Gentile. When studing the book of Jonah, it dawned on me the time frame for this prophet and the people Jonah was sent to preach to in Nineveh. I always wondered why Jonah got so angry about this task and ran away from God. The people in Nineveh were not Jews. After the nation of Israel split into the north and south, Elijah was followed by Elisha to minister to the twelve tribes. The next prophet was Joel who spoke to the southern kingdom Judah. Then God sent Jonah to the Gentiles in Assyria which is modern day Iraq to the town of Nineveh. God has been trying to reach the Gentiles with His message of hope and love early in human history. If you really look at the story of the exodus from Egypt, you will see God trying to save the Egyptian Gentiles from destruction with the various plagues. Look at the story of Noah and the flood. God was trying to save anyone who would listen to Noah. Will you listen? Exodus 6:2-3
If you want to know about me, ask my wife. She knows me better than any other person on the face of this planet. Moses knew God better than anyone else previously. God established His Covenant with Abraham, but Moses knew God in a deeper way than Abraham. God spoke to Moses face to face as referenced in Exodus 33:11. But I also want you to see Exodus 33: where Moses could not look at he face of God or he would die. What is going on here? God the Son was in the pillar of the cloud and spoke to Moses face to face. God the Father was on the mountain and told Moses that he could not see His face or he would die. My favorite part of this story is the rock. Jesus is the rock and God the Father says that He will put His man inside the protection of His rock. Exodus 33:1-11
Exodus 33:17-23
This lesson is focusing on the names describing the Living God. I could talk all day on Exodus 33, but that discussion is in the Kairosman lesson week 3. What is in a name? One of my big personal issues with the Muslim faith and the Quran is the way the Quran handles the name of Jesus Christ. They remove the meaning from Christ. The Quran actually says in 5:75 that Jesus the Messiah (Christ) is no more than a messenger. What? The actual definition of Messiah is the Anointed One or Redeemer or Savior. They treat the name Christ as it were an American last name like Smith or Jones. Christ is not Jesus' last name. Christ is His title. Why call Jesus the Messiah and then say that He is not? Christ is the Greek version of the word for Messiah which refers to the Anointed One who is the Redeemer and Savior of all mankind as promised by God the moment sin entered into this fallen world. Words have meaning. One of my favorite names for Jesus in the bible is the Word. Names are suppose to describe the person. Our American culture does not utilize this practice, but I understand that the early native American Indians did use their names to describe a person at least some of the time. As I am writing this in 2014 the football team from Washington state are in the process of fighting over the team name of Redskins. This name offends someone. I do not understand, but it is a big political movement right now. Funny thing is the baseball team in Atlanta is named the Braves. I attended one of their games while in Atlanta on business and it with was an outstanding pitching battle. I was struck by the Brave fans tomahawk chop and extremely loud chanting of a war cry. Shouldn't this offend the same group who is offended by the name Redskins? Frankly, neither team is being disrespectful to the native American Indian. If anything the names are drawing people into an affection for this people group by these beloved sports teams. But a political group thinks that they are doing the right thing by forcing a team into legal battles to change their franchise name. I think this is a bad marketing move for the native American Indian. God describes Himself in the bible. In Jeremiah 2:13 God describes Himself as the fountain of living waters. Jesus refers to living waters in John 7 and in also John 4 while talking to the Samaritan woman by the well. Samaritans were half Jews because they married Gentiles. Full blood Jews did not talk to Samaritans and men did not talk to women. Jesus does not hold to the silly traditions of man and Jesus talks to the Samaritan woman because she is made in the image of the Living God just like a full blood Israelite and just like you. Jeremiah
2:13
John 7:37-39
God created water.
God separated the waters above from the waters below. God established
the land from the waters and set a boundary for the waters. Life
would not exist without water. Man would not exist without God.
God is the source of life. Do you know Him? Do you know the
name above all names?
